Family and Friends: First, I want to say that this is probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. I like to give my time and money to others in need- and really had to suck up my pride to do this. However, I’ve learned that someti mes it’s okay to ask for help and so here goes: As many of you know, after my undergraduate college career I did not go to medical school as planned but instead Mat and I started our family (which I wouldn’t change for anything because we have the most amazing little boy ever!) Therefore, for the last year I have been working on my back-up plan, which is to become a Nurse Practitioner. In order to do this, I was required to go back to school to get an Associate degree in nursing, as the first step is being a Registered Nurse. Once I do this, I will be able to work full time and start taking the N.P classes. I have done very well, and I am proud to say that even as a mother I have been able to get all A’s. Unfortunately, because I am going back to get an associates after a bachelor’s degree, I am ineligible to receive any type of financial aid because I have “too many credit hours.” There are no exceptions to the rules, so all though the circumstances are different it doesn’t matter. This has also made me ineligible to receive private student loans for the Associate degree. So basically Mat and I have been living as poor as can be and paying for all of this out of pocket...but it has finally just all caught up to us. We have been able to pay half of this semester’s tuition, but the rest of our money has gone to gas money so I can drive to Zanesville 4 days a week. I still owe OU $2,000 for this semester and therefore I cannot move on to my final semester. I let my classmates know this weekend that I would not be moving onto next semester or graduating with them in May—and they have done an amazing thing and created a fundraiser for me. Any money that is donated goes directly into an account made by my class and will go to the school. Again, I truly hate asking for help, but I promise you, that if you or your families ever have me as your caregiver—you will have the best of the best. Thanks for your time everyone. Please, even if you cannot help, feel free to share the fundraising page. Every dollar helps. Thanks Again, especially to my classmates!
