Ira Waks was a larger than life figure that gave everything away and then some. He spent a great deal of time walking around New York City, scouring the city looking for loose change. At the end of the year he donated that found money to local charities that he and Finnegan his dog considered worthy. Now that Ira has passed we would like to make a memorial to his extraordinary life in a place that held some significance for him.
We would like to purchase a bench in his name in Madison Square Park. He always lived around the park, worked around the park, walked around the park, held events in the park, and when Shake Shack moved in he even dined there.
A lot of people have asked what they could do to put in a pledge or contribution, to help put something out there in his memory. Ira was always great at putting a spin on life, and helping foster growth and potential. When the bench is named everyone can still sit down next to him and seek his council or spill ketchup on him (as he was prone to do.)
Please donate what you can to make this simple monument to a loving man.
