About This Cause

10/4/14, 5:43am, It is with a very heavy heart that we have to say to all the Team Abi supporters, that Abi earned her angel wings early this morning. She was a beautiful soul with a heart of glitter and we will all be forever changed from having known her. Rest in Peace sweet princess. We love you.

10/2/14 ~ Thank you for your continued support for Team Abi. She is such a sweet special soul that has touched so many people, even many she's never met. Spending quality time together as a family is our priority right now. Please count your blessings, tell the special people in your lives that you love them, and keep sending your prayers and positive thoughts.

09/23/14 ~ We have some news that we have been dreading. Abi's MRI yesterday indicated that her tumors are continuing to grow and spread. She has been put on hospice and is not the same Abi that she once was. We would appreciate your continued support with prayers and positive thoughts for this sweet girl that continues to touch so many hearts, as we spend as much time as possible together as a family.

08/27/14 ~ Abi completed this round of radiation this morning. She is extremely tired and somewhat nauseous and is trying to rest as much as possible. The highlight of her day is watching the many Cream Cancer videos that have flooded her Facebook page! You all are making her smile and giggle! Thank you again for your generosity.

08/21/14 ~ Abi's latest round of radiation has begun. She has had two treatments thus far and the incredible people that make up Team Abi are trying to balance that with fun things to do when she's not resting. As we move forward with HOPE, please know that your donation toward Team Abi's Ten Plus One is so very much appreciated!

08/11/14 ~ Abi had 23 stitches taken out today and rocked it! Nothing seems to get this girl down! There have been a ton of people sharing Abi's page and her story as she fights this awful disease. Hopefully people are becoming aware of the fight these kids and their families have to face with pediatric brain cancer. We appreciate the good thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. Any donation, no matter the amount helps.

08/4/14 ~ Given all the stressful things that have happened in the last week, it is my hope that we can all re-visit this donation page and raise some more funds to support Abi and her family. Please share this website and let's see what Team Abi can do!!

08/3/14 ~ UPDATE! Holy smokes, this last week has been a roller coaster ride for Abi and The Rhea Family. Last Monday Abi had her regular two month MRI and the doctors found that her tumor had begun growing and that there were other changes they were concerned about. An additional MRI of her spine was performed and a tumor was found extremely close to her spine which required emergency surgery. Her amazing neurosurgeon was able to get all of the spinal tumor, except a thin layer covering the spinal cord. Abi was released from the hospital a few hours ago, extremely sore and exhausted.

05/21/14 ~ UPDATE! It's been a bit since our last update. Abi is halfway through her chemotherapy treatments! This kid is a rock star. She has made leaps and bounds progress with her therapy and she can, at times, walk by herself. She has gone back to school part time and is doing as much as she can, but what she does, she does at 150% Less than a year later and she has mastered cursive with her left hand! (She was a righty beforehand) Amazing doesn't even cover it. Let's keep the support coming! ♥

11/26/13 ~ UPDATE! As we approach the day that we remember what we are thankful for, I thought an update on this sweet girl was necessary. Abi is doing great! Her last MRI showed positive results and she has started her new regimen of two kinds of powerful chemo. Aside from a few fevers here and there and being tired, she is doing well. We are leaving this site up until the end of the year in hopes that we can reach our goal. Please help us get there! This beautiful little girl has reached into the hearts of so many, let's offer our continued support to her and her amazing family!

9/27/13 ~ UPDATE! Almost two months to the day this whole nightmare started, Abi was asked to speak at the Hyundai grant presentation at Primary Children's Medical Center. She, in her true form, was brilliant! Three weeks ago, Abi could not form a full sentence! Way to go kiddo!! Forward we go, one day at a time!

**********Abi's Story ~ (If you're just joining us start here!)**********

July 26, 2013 started out like any other day during the busy summertime for the Rhea family. In fact, this family whose motto is "A family that plays together, stays together," was gearing up for a fun filled weekend of camping at one of their most favorite spots.

Things suddenly changed when Abigail, known by her family and friends as Abi, wasn't feeling quite right and was taken to the doctor. The day progressed with a list of medical tests and in the end, this day will be remembered as one that changed all of their lives.

Abi was found to be fighting a cancerous tumor in her brain. She was admitted to the hospital and has been there since August 9th. She has undergone two brain surgeries to remove as much of the tumor as possible.

From both the tumor and the surgeries, Abi has sustained limited mobility of her right side. Her current treatment plan includes intensive physical, occupation, and speech therapy in combination with radiation and chemotherapy to target the remainder of the tumor. Her chemotherapy will continue for the next 12 months.

She is working extremely hard with her therapists to regain her mobility and makes progress everyday! Her immediate goal is to work hard enough to get out of that hospital and get home to her family and friends!

The Rhea family is fighting the biggest battle they have ever had to face. The desire to want to be there at the hospital every moment is balanced with the worry of not going to work to pay the bills. As we all know, the bills don't stop, no matter how big the crisis. In addition to the regular bills, the extra unexpected expenses incurred in a situation like this compound every day and so does the worry of two parents trying to support their family.

It is my hope that with the support of people who know them and love them, we might be able to reduce some of the stress this unthinkable situation has placed on their shoulders, not only for the immediate moment but for the months to come as well.

Join with me and make a donation to Team Abi! She is giving this fight everything she has. Please give whatever you can. No amount is too small.

We are all better people for having Abi in our lives. She has an incredible heart and a wonderful spirit.

Thank you for supporting this brave little girl in her fight.
