About This Cause

In 2010 I learned that none of the 26 countries of Latin America or the Caribbean has ever had a sequential, residential, academic course to learn to repair musical instruments of any kind. I am a piano tuner, and glad to share, but that is not enough. Those who enter this career field need mentors during the intensive training, and apprenticeships with qualified technicians in the early years of their careers. Every musical instrument needs more work than anyone's budget, and all of those qualified to study need financial support for tuition and tools. New musical instruments are very expensive. In March, 2015 Ecuador imposed a 45% tax on the already expensive imported instruments. None of the countries manufactures pianos, or instruments for band, orchestra, or even electronic instruments. There is a great need to train technicians to maintain the instruments they have, create tools and parts locally, and to establish new manufacturing industries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. I have been working with a team since May 2010 to create a series of conferences and workshops, a complete set of residential academic courses, and the infrastructure to support these new careers. In the beginning the instructors must come from other countries with the objective of making each participating nation self sufficient in their own way. We need patronage for travel and expenses for those who train the local teachers. We need donations of musical instruments, tools, and funds to support student matriculation. We need support to create instructional materials and glossaries in various languages. Your donations of money or musical instruments or tools will improve the economic vitality of individuals whose service will contribute immeasurably to the cultural vitality of nations.

Help us with the funds we need to train the teachers who work locally to mentor and teach the technicians so each country can become self sufficient in musical instrument repair.

Contribute to harmony in the world by helping one student technician who will therefore become self sufficient in a lifetime career.

Thank you for the donations and comments. Please share this crowdfunding effort. We had a great Conference 2015 in Ecuador, but spent much more than we took in. We need $50,000 to meet the needs this year, most of which comes from the participants. Please help us raise the $5,000 for preconference expenses.

This is one of the most important projects I have seen online. Please share with all those who play music, sell or repair instruments, or produce or listen to music! That is who will benefit.
