About This Cause

The first round of chemo took 17 hours and should have been only around six hours. They had to keep stopping the treatment and restarting it because of her reaction to the drugs. She has tiny veins and a day before the treatment they put in a picc line in. After the 17 hours they remove the picc line because on her next visit they were going to put in a port. She and her husband left at midnight. An hour and a half later at the hotel she started bleeding out from where the picc line was taken out. 911 was called and rushed her to the emergecy room where they stopped the bleeding. Beverly and her husband left there at 5:00AM and went back to the room. The second round of chemo went much better. It took around 7 hours. The next day she ran a feavor and had to go to the ER again. She was given antibiotics and then released with a perscription for antibiotics. Please help, Beverly Galatas Miserendino cover expenses incurred in her travels to M.D. Anderson Hospital In Houston, Texas, for medicial bills, hotel, food and gas, where she is undergoing Chemotherapy treatment for Aggressive Stage 2 Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, subtype double expressor. Beverly came home from the hospital yesterday. She did not have to have the port removed. The IV antibiotics worked and the infection is almost cleared up. She was sent home with antibiotic meds to take. Beverly and her husband Bruce will be on the road again on this Thursday to MD Anderson in Houston for round four of chemo. Bruce has used up all his vacation and sick leave. So when he takes off now to go with her he will not be paid for the time off. Thank you to everyone who has donated to this fundraiser or shared it. May God bless!

Infected port Beverly’s port has become infected. This is the way that she receives chemo treatments. The area around it is red and infected. After sending pictures of the red area through the portal to MD Anderson in Houston, she received a phone call from the doctor telling her to go to an emergency room in her area. The ER gave her IV antibiotics and after looking at the port they put her in the hospital and said the port may have to come out. This morning a surgeon looked at it and said for now they will keep her a few days on IV antibiotics. Then he will make a decision as to whether the port will stay in or have to be surgically removed.

Beverly and her husband Bruce went to MD Anderson in Houston, TX last week. Beverly had more test and a third round of chemo. They spent their wedding anniversary there while Beverly was having test run. The trip straight through without stopping is about 6 hrs. They do it in about 7.5 hours because of stopping for rest stops, gas and eating. There is a lot of construction and sometimes traffic. On a couple of trips they were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for 1.5 hrs. making it a 10 hour trip.
