On Halloween day 2013, I underwent surgery to reconstruct my eye socket. Two days prior, I had been riding on the top of a double decker bus (driving at approximately 50 mph) and was hit in the face by a rather large tree branch. It was fast, hard, and very unexpected, as these things usually are. My life shifted in, quite literally, the blink of an eye.
I spent the next month and a half in my bed healing with a plastic protective covering taped to my face. It was a lot of fun. No sarcasm here!
Though my eye socket was successfully rebuilt, the muscles in my eye have not yet fully recovered. This causes my left eye to wander upwards always looking towards the heavens. I now have what is known as double vision, I see two of everything overlapped upon each other. I see a completely different world now.
As much as I have embraced this experience for all of its tremendous gifts (that I am very grateful for) I am ready to have my singular, focused vision back again. This requires me to undergo surgery yet again, this time to repair the lower muscle of my eye. I feel very blessed to live in a time when surgery such as this is possible.
Though I still have a bit to go, I am 100% committed to my full recovery, no matter what it takes. Step by step, one day at a time, I will succeed. I know this to be truth. I am so grateful for the support of all of the incredible people who have shown up to carry me compassionately through this experience. I am better with you by my side. Thank you for visualizing my full recovery and giving in all the ways that you do. I am very blessed to be a part of such an amazing community of Superheros.
The money raised through this campaign will assist me in paying the medical costs that my health insurance does not cover. This breaks down to my $3000 deductible, MRI's and CT Scans, 40% for the first and second surgeries I had and I am now entering my third and hopefully final surgery. It also covers associated medical costs, my physical therapy and my living costs during the recovery time of each procedure.
I do not currently have the financial means to cover these costs by myself. I am taking legal action against the bus company I was riding with, however, a settlement is not able to be made until I first undergo all of my medical treatments, which means everything my insurance does not cover will come out of pocket. I ask for your support so I may receive this treatment and re-align my eyes. Thank YOU!
