Theo Menswar, a loving and wonderful 14-year old boy has been diagnosed with Myleodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). MDS is a rare blood disease that requires a bone marrow transplant to treat and hopefully cure this disease. If left untreated, the disease can progress to become Acute Myeloid Leukemia and seriously hinder his chances of survival.
Theo has been out of school since November 2011 awaiting a diagnosis and treatment plan. With the diagnosis now confirmed, his bone marrow transplant is set for August 9, 2012. He will be in the hospital for 113 days beginning July 26, 2012.
The full recovery process will take the better part of a year and will force him to miss his first year of high school. While the odds have stacked against him, Theo has remained in good spirits and is ready to fight this disease and get back to living the life of a normal teenage boy.
While Theo's insurance will cover the cost of the Transplant...the diagnosis required the family to travel to Boston Children's Hospital for assistance. Even though all the proper procedures were followed, the insurance company has denied all out-of-state coverage.
This leaves the Menswar's with almost $20,000 in diagnostic bills that they have to cover out-of-pocket.
The fundraising will significantly help the Menswar family during this unexpected time of need and allow them to fully focus on Theo's recovery.
The money raised will go to help with the treatment costs for Theo. His mother, Emily has taken off a semester of teaching at Edgewood Jr/Sr High School to help care for Theo til the end of the Year. Theo's father, Brant, a recording artist and pastor, has had to cancel his Fall tour in order to help care for his son.
The Menswar's insurance has denied all out-of-state coverage which leaves them almost $20,000 in diagnostic bills. When you add this to the lost income and logistics of staying 113 days at the hospital, the costs rise to well over $40,000.
Would you consider helping the Menswar's in their time of need? With over $40,000 in expenses, the financial burden on the family is overwhelming. Please help us raise the funds necessary to allow the Menswar's to focus on Theo's recovery and not this burden.
