On Wednesday, April 15th, Vergil Holland died of complications of metastatic renal cell cancer. The world lost an incredible person that day. We have created this fund for anyone who wishes to honor Vergil's life with a donation to the "Vergil Holland Memorial Mentor Award". We plan to create a monetary award which will be presented annually at a national trial to an individual who has been nominated and chosen for their mentoring and guidance.
Vergil is mourned by many for countless reasons. However, probably the biggest impact Vergil had on his community was in his role as a mentor. As a trainer of dogs, teacher of their handlers, and farmer, Vergil touched so many lives with his guidance and encouragement. Helping others learn to handle their animals, whether for farm work or for trialing, was Vergil's life's work. He was an incredibly gifted and successful teacher and trainer. This award is a tribute to his life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Vergil Holland Memorial Fund so that we can create a perpetual award as a tribute to Vergil's life.

Contact meMy daughter, Libby, just found out about Virgil's death. He was so kind to her, offering to teach her and her border collie despite his AKC designation. Virgil made an impression on Libby that will last a lifetime. And the world is a sadder place without him. He will be in our prayers.
