I have known Craig Northcutt for 22 years. He is one of those guys that you just can’t help but like and I consider him one of my best friends. Craig grew up hunting and fishing with his Dad and is an avid outdoorsman. He has been married to his wife Brittany for 12 years and they have two great kids, Mia and Masyn. Craig, an employee of Choctaw Casinos, and his wife Brittany, a Nurse at Durant Public Schools, are exemplary members of the community. Mia is a cheerleader at the high school and Masyn is an avid Softball player. Craig has always been a supportive husband and father. He rarely misses either of their games and is often bragging about their talents to anyone who will listen. The point being, Craig is a genuine guy who does nothing in his life but do for others. Now he needs our help! This is our chance as a community to pull together, and help one of our own.
We got the call September 6, 2012 late on a Thursday night. My wife answered the phone and I could tell immediately from her expression that someone was hurt. The first thought that entered my mind was that something happened at the deer lease. Craig and some friends had gone to their deer lease that night to count deer for the state DMAP program. He had emailed me and our buddy Tyson earlier in the day sharing his excitement about going to deer camp. Craig was critically injured in an atv accident Thursday night and was flown via care flight helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. If not for the miraculous hand of God and heroic efforts of our friend James, I truly believe Craig would not be with us today.
Craig’s diagnosis is not good. He has a severe brain injury, resulting in some loss of vision and paralysis on the left side of his body. He has a long road to recovery ahead of him but is making amazing progress every day. Craig is a very strong guy both physically and mentally and with the support and prayers of his family and friends, he will get through this.
The financial burden of this tragedy will be tremendous for Craig and Brittany. Insurance only covers a portion of the medical costs and when you consider the expense for treatments, lost wages, travel and long-term rehabilitation services, the effects could be devastating on the Northcutt family. This is our chance as a community to step up and ensure that this does not happen. Every donation makes a difference and will get one step closer to creating a scenario where the Northcutt’s can focus 100% of their time, energy, and prayers into Craig’s recovery, and not on financial matters. So please, help in showing how much Craig and his family mean to us all and donate to the Craig and Brittany Northcutt Special Fund! The support is GREATLY needed and appreciated more than can be conveyed in words. Thanks for the support!
FINAL UPDATE.... Since officially coming home in September, Craig has continued to make good strides in all aspects of his therapy. He has started walking some without the use of a cane and is sporting some new glasses to help correct his vision. Over the past few months, he has been speaking at various functions to help educate and create awareness on the importance of helmet use and atv safety and many youths are now wearing helmets thanks to his efforts. Craig and his family have been truly blessed by the outpouring of prayers, support and donations. Keep up the good fight Craig!
UPDATE.... Great news for this week! Craig has continued to make gains in all aspects of his recovery over the last few months and was officially released from CNS on Monday Sept 25. He immediately begins outpatient therapy this week and will continue his journey to recovery. On behalf of Craig and his family, thank you again for all of your prayers and donations. They are deeply appreciated!
UPDATE..... Craig continues to make progress and is gaining stability each week with his walking. He is hoping for an August release date from CNS at which point he will continue his therapy via outpatient care somewhere closer to his home in Durant. Thank you again for all your prayers and donations.
