The mission of the Museum of Making Music is to celebrate the rich history of music making and encourage its future through exhibitions, hands-on activities and music-related programming. The Museum's goal is to explore connections between people, instruments and the music we make. The Museum�s core messages are:· Music is a global human phenomenon as well as an intimate personal experience that affects everyday life.· The interaction of people, instruments, and imagination makes music · The interaction of music and society causes shifts in musical styles, innovation in musical instruments and the uses of instruments in making music

Top Accomplishments for 2010-2011: 1. Completed a significant 600K renovation of the museum galleries incorporating state-of-the-art interactive activities, a global perspective on music making and a space for special exhibitions.2. Researched, curated and presented a new special exhibition, �Roots of Reeds,� highlighting the global origins of reed instruments including clarinets, saxophones, harmonicas, oboes, bagpipes and others. World renowned musicians presented programs in conjunction with the exhibition including James Cotton, Howard Levy, Randy Raine-Reusch and Mei Han.3. Incorporated a new school-wide assembly component to our offsite education program, the Joli Ann Leichtag Project. This year's presentation was entitled,  �The Brilliance of Mexican Composers.�   Top Goals for 2010-2011:1. Leverage the renovation to gain public exposure, grow the membership program, solidify the museum brand, fundraise, and attract more visitors to the museum and more participants to the programs.2. Conduct an in-depth assessment of our MusicVentures school tour program and revise to incorporate gallery renovation components. Develop and produce educator curriculum resources.3. Launch the Global Spotlight concert series, highlighting music from around the world and celebrating both similarities and differences in styles, instruments and messages.4. Research, prepare and launch the special exhibition entitled �Saying Something: A Celebration of the Saxophone� (working title) with accompanying performance series. (Charles McPherson opening the series.) 5. Complete initial draft of revised 5-year Strategic Plan by the end of the year.
