Their Mission Statement

As dual language charter schools, EJEA Academies prepare students from diverse populations to excel in higher education and to be leaders in creating a just global society.

Summary of Impact

Accomplishments   EJEA is teaching 579 lower income students to read, write, and speak in both English and Spanish with those who enroll in the program in grade K becoming fluent in both languages by their 5th grade year. EJEA is providing students with a strong foundation in language arts, math and science, giving them the skills to do well on and outperform other students on standardized tests which measure college readiness. In 2011, EJE Elementary Academy scored 839 on the API, surpassing other schools serving lower income children in the Cajon Valley Union School District. Just in its second year of operations, EJEA Middle School was also one of the top 3 performing schools in the Cajon Valley Union School District, scoring higher on the California Standardized Tests (CST) than any other school in the district serving lower income children and English Language Learners students and just a few points below students from higher income households in other district middle schools. EJEA is engaging parents who traditionally play a limited role in their children's education due language barriers and time constraints. Each year, parents of EJEA students volunteer more than 5,000 hours to support their children, assist teachers in the classrrom, advice the administration on areas for improvement, organize and host special events, and engage in fundraising activities. Each year, the demand and interest in EJEA is growing in El Cajon and the East County region. Nearly 500 students are on the schools’ waiting lists with more families requesting information about enrollment each week. EJEA maintains consistent high standards and parent involvement by retaining qualified teachers. Over 90 – 95% of teachers are retained each year.    2011-12 Goals EJEA recently convened its staff, faculty, and board of directors to revisit the organization's strategic plan. The group assessed the schools' internal strengths and weaknesses as well as the opportunities and challenges created by the currently economic, political, and social environment. As a result of this effort, the organization identified the following priority goals for the current academic year. One goal is to improve the academic performance of consistently low achieving students, particularly in language arts. Another goal is to raise greater awareness about the organization and its impact in El Cajon and the broader region.  EJEA also aims to provide greater support to teachers with professional development and training activities as well as by bringing in specialists to assist
