Mission Statement: Improving the lives of animals and people through advocacy, education, and support. The Marin Humane Society, organized over one hundred years ago, is a progressive animal shelter offering refuge and rehabilitation to nearly ten thousand animals each year through a myriad of community services including: adoptions, foster care, humane education for schoolchildren, lost and found pet services, low-cost spay/neuter services, and more. The Marin Humane Society finds homes for over two thousand animals every year.
In 2010, the Marin Humane Society found new, loving homes for 2,382 dogs, cats, and small companion and farm animals. Our veterinary clinic spayed/neutered 2,219 animals, and 711 animals were provide with foster care on their way to adoption. We provide Marin County's Animal Services, including responding to 3,469 emergency calls and investigating 1,663 complaints in 2010. Our Behavior and Training Department offers group dog-training classes, private dog- and cat-behavior consultations, and our department director, nationally recognized behavior expert Trish King leads her Canine Behavior Academy twice each year. We provide pet-care assistance to hundreds of low-income seniors, people living with HIV/AIDS, and people under hospice care each year, and in 2010, more than 1,500 schoolchildren participated in our humane-education programs.
