Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods (SOIL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting soil resources, empowering communities and transforming wastes into resources in Haiti. We believe that the path to sustainability is through transformation, of both disempowered people and discarded materials, turning apathy and pollution into valuable resources.  Our primary focus is on promoting ecological sanitation (EcoSan), an environmentally sound sanitation technology which is used to convert human wastes into valuable fertilizer, impacting public health, agriculture and the environment.

SOIL is proud of our accomplishments in recent months: -Continuing to serve over 15,000 people with safe and dignified sanitation in the camps of Port-au-Prince and in numerous underserved communities in Northern Haiti. -Maintained and upgraded our Cap-Haitien compost site and established a new temporary site in Port-au-Prince, which are producing over 15 tons of beautiful compost per week. -Established experimental gardens and fielded numerous requests for compost from organizations and communities. -Provided ecological sanitation training to over 50 national and international organizations. -Commenced planning for Haiti�s first National EcoSan Conference for December. - Provided critical education and supplies to combat cholera in communities throughout Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien - Continued to run a variety of small projects to benefit the communities in which we work including a three Tech Centers that host educational programs and demonstrate low-cost environmental technologies and a school scholarship program.   In the coming months SOIL hopes to increase sanitation activities in Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien with a particular focus on the two poorest urban neighborhoods, Cite Soleil and Shada, of these two cities that have been hardest hit by cholera and have almost no access to improved sanitation services.
