The mission of the Alameda County Community Food Bank is to alleviate hunger by providing nutritious food and nutrition education to people in need, educating the public, and promoting public policies that address hunger and its root causes.
The Alameda County Community Food Bank is a fast growing and multi-faceted organization at the forefront of hunger relief efforts in California. Established in 1985, the Food Bank employs a comprehensive and strategic approach that includes short- and long-term solutions to hunger. Major initiatives include food sourcing and distribution, nutrition education, food stamp outreach, and advocacy for public policy change. Through its network of 275 agency partners, the Food Bank serves 49,000 children and adults each week. In these challenging economic times, the Food Bank is responding to a 47% increase in community demand.
