California Musical Theatre is committed to the presentation of quality theatrical productions to enrich the cultural life of the City of Sacramento, the State of California and the United States. The goals of the organization are to preserve and expand the American musical theatre as an art form by educating new audiences and nurturing aspiring artists.
Though they differ in style and tone, each CMT production is a celebration of the human spirit, and each fulfills the company’s mission of enriching the cultural life of the region. Total FY 2008 attendance: 381,640 Our mission also includes reaching new and diverse audiences, sharing resources with underserved segments of the community and educating future artists and technicians. Internships — Ten weeks, students rotate through various fields of musical theatre production. College credit. 2007-08 interns – 15. Professional Assistantships — Ten to 13 weeks of concentrated, hands-on experience in a single technical or administrative specialty. Offers a stipend and college credit. 2007-08 assistants – 26. Summer Dance Series — Classes taught by Music Circus choreographers and dancers Participants are chosen by audition. 2007-08 dancers – 25. Camp Music Circus — A two-week theatre arts camp for children 9-12. Emphasizes creativity, teamwork and self-expression. 2007-08 campers – 48. Backstage Pass — Similar to Camp Music Circus but for 13- to 16-year-olds. Also includes a technical theatre component. 2007-08 campers – 30.Wells Fargo Teaching Through Musical Theatre Institute — a 40-hour staff development workshop for K-12 educators. 2007-08 teachers – 24. In-Theatre Programs Arts Alive! — Includes free tickets, complimentary refreshments and a chance to interact with performers. 2007-08 participants – 567. Sign-Interpreted Performances — American Sign Language interpreters sign one performance of each CMT production. 144. In-School Programs Theatre Education Partnerships — Long-term, in-depth artist-in-residence program. Integrates theatre arts, primarily acting, vocal music and dance, into the existing curriculum for K-12 students. Residencies last from eight to 30 weeks. 2007-08 students – 255
