The BIOCOM Institute fosters the next generation of STEM leaders who may potentially save lives through scientific discovery. We are perpetuating a new ethic of service where companies are leading as community builders and industry professionals are dedicating themselves as volunteers. We help schools and learning institutions infuse real world examples into curriculum in order to increase the number of under-represented individuals exposed to STEM careers.   The BIOCOM Institute supports science education and creates pioneering opportunities for students, teachers, and scientists to work with the life science industry. The mission of the BIOCOM Institute is to serve as a bridge between learning institutions and life science companies to create comprehensive education initiatives that advance scientific literacy.

The Institute has been successful at partnering with key agencies, life science companies, and learning institutions to encourage systemic change through collaboration and outreach.  These communities have come together to create innovative solutions for meeting local and state science education and workforce needs.   The BIOCOM Institute helps to ensure a prosperous and productive future for the life science industry and empower change in our education system. .  BIOCOM Institute Program Highlights .  BRIDGE & EDGE Grants: The BIOCOM Institute and partners have raised over $9MM to provide education, training, and placement services to incumbent, dislocated, and unemployed workers in the greater San Diego region. .  Life Sciences Summer Institute: Since 2005, 271 interns have been placed and 34 companies have supported the program.  Approximately 25% of the internships led to full time or part time employment. 114 teachers have been trained and 60,000 students have potentially been reached. Online Workforce Center (BiocomInstitute.org):  A �one-stop-shop� for life science career resources. We have developed a searchable database containing more than 800 life science career descriptions and provided links to over 300 degree and certificate programs offered by institutions within Southern California. .  Science Education Speakers Bureau: Enrolled 150 professionals from the life science industry as guest speakers, 82% of students demonstrated increased mastery of content addressed in infusion lessons, 14 school districts/schools, 22 teachers, 59 classes and 2,500 students have been reached.  .  Career Counselor Outreach:  Have trained over 360 high school, college, community college and career counselors. BIOCOM Scholarship and Education Fund: Over 60 companies/individuals have supported the education fund .  57 students have received $1,500 each year for 4 years to help support college expenses.
