While the poverty & joblessness we encountered in 2010 & 2011 will most likely continue well into 2012 & beyond; Heartland has made a difference & we will redouble our efforts to restore homes, create jobs, conduct trainings, & start incubator businesses in 2012. Heartland is acquiring, renovating (energy improvements) & selling houses in CA, AZ, & NV to first-time moderate & low-income buyers. We are writing grants to fund training in weatherization techniques & solar thermal & electric installation to prepare high-risk youth & veterans for a variety of career choices. We have designed a program to keep distressed families in their homes & avoid foreclosure. Heartlandís Project GreenSmart presented the fifth conference in the FSF Seminars & Showcases in each of the 5 sectors in San Diego County: North Coastal, North Inland, East County, Central/City, & South Bay. Heartland has completed construction on Triple H Ranch, which will serve Project Achieve students, foster youth, & returning veterans with horsemanship & wilderness experiences. The ranch is also available to assist disaster survivors with horse boarding & storage of personal items until the survivors can re-establish their businesses & residences. In 2011 we laid the groundwork for the first Heartland Community Clinic that opened on June 8, 2012 with medical services on Thursdays & Fridays. The dental clinic is scheduled to open this summer. The Heartland Coalition has been involved in planning a scholarship dinner for student athletes, a benefit golf tournament, fundraising for student scholarships, fundraising for college & high school athletic teams & extra curricular organizations, the Project Team mentoring program, the development & presentation of courses in productivity, communication, & personal & organizational finance, the administration of Project Destination & the Town Center Project, & the ownership & administration of the Heartland Foundation Community Learning Center.
