National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC) provides and promotes collaborative dispute resolution and conflict management to individuals, organizations and society through education, training and client services.
During the 2010-2011 fiscal year, NCRC provided over 1,800 dispute resolution services, over 1,200 mediations with agreement rate greater than 77% and enrolled over 1,000 trainees in classes at sites in U.S., Europe, and Mexico. Each spring since 1989, NCRC has presented the Peacemaker Awards to promote the concept of peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue and collaboration. Awards have gone to a broad range of individuals and organizations. Many are well known - elected officials, a university president, and the Mexican consul. Others are relatively unsung, such as the tattoo parlor owners who removed gang tattoos as a community service. All recipients are leaders in finding creative solutions for compelling current conflicts. In 2011, over 500 people gathered to attend the 23rd Annual Peacemaker Awards dinner at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, where awards were given to Athol Fugard, South African playwright, Morris Casuto, former San Diego Anti-Defamation League Regional Director, and the New Roots Community Farm, located in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego. This event continues to prove that although conflict can be painful and destructive, it also brings opportunities for growth though improved understanding and insight. Through all of NCRCís growth, the focus has never drifted away from our roots in the community. With the Urban Solutions program, NCRC seeks to help build a more civil society by providing local leaders with the skills necessary to overcome conflict, better enabling them to serve the communities where they work and live. The Exchange, an innovative conflict management training, has been provided free of charge to more than 1,000 such leaders throughout San Diego County, impacting the most underserved communities. What originally began as a handful of training courses, blossomed into a community-wide system for integrating communication and conflict management strategies to inspire collaborative efforts.
