The mission of the San Diego Audubon Society is to foster the protection and appreciation of birds, other wildlife, and their habitats, through study and education, and to advocate for a cleaner, healthier environment.

San Diego Audubon is passionate about connecting children to the natural world. As a founding member of the San Diego Children and Nature Collaborative (SDCaN), we inspire communities to nurture, empower, and engage youth in cultivating their relationship with nature. SDCaN has attracted the support of more than fifty participating organizations. Last school year, San Diego Audubon�s OutdoorExplore! after-school outdoor nature program introduced more than 1,500 elementary school children to �nearby nature� � nature right in their own neighborhoods � in sixteen school communities throughout the San Diego region. San Diego Audubon�s community-based habitat restoration program hosts over thirty volunteer events every year. Several hundred volunteers participate in restoration work and learn about how to protect and improve habitat for threatened and endangered species. Last year, more than 3,000 hours of volunteer labor were logged at five restoration sites throughout the county. SDAS pursues collaboration to achieve maximum impact. Collaborators include the National Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, San Diego River Park Foundation, San Diego Natural History Museum, San Diego Zoological Society, San Diego Canyonlands, Friends of Rose Canyon, San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy, I Love a Clean San Diego, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Port of San Diego, City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department, City of Chula Vista, and San Diego County. Key organizational goals for the current year include: 1) strengthening and expanding our conservation program to better protect our region�s wildlife and habitat; 2) increasing our community�s understanding and appreciation of birds, other wildlife, and their habitat; and 3) enhancing the sustainability of SDAS through increased staffing levels, membership, volunteerism, collaboration with other organizations, and fundraising.
