The mission of the American Land Conservancy is to protect our natural heritage by conserving land for the benefit of people and wildlife.

2010 ACCOMPLISHMENTS * Conserved 880 acres of native timber on Buck Island, a 1,500-acre island in the Mississippi River near Helena, Arkansas. The island is home to many wildlife species, including endangered Least Terns. * Conserved ten additional acres in the Sacramento River Bend Outstanding Natural Area in California that includes high priority riparian habitat, oak woodlands, habitat for salmon and steelhead trout, and outstanding recreation opportunities.  * Added eight acres to the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois consisting of a high quality cypress-tupelo swamp, habitat for many rare wetland plants and animal species, and excellent habitat for resident and migratory bird species.  * Conserved 50 acres of alkali desert scrub habitat at Atwell Island in Tulare County, California, protecting critical habitat for the Tipton kangaroo rat and other threatened and endangered species.  GOALS FOR 2011: * Conserve 2,400-acre Wild Cherry Canyon on the central California coast. The property will facilitate a 65% expansion of Montana de Oro State Park and extend the California Coastal Trail by 15 to 20 miles.  * Protect more than 14,000 acres of productive rangelands in the Great Basin (in the Paradise Valley and along the Humboldt River) through conservation easements.  * Pursue protection of 73,000-acre Sitkalidak Island in Alaska�s Kodiak Archipelago and work toward conserving additional habitat on Afognak and Kodiak Islands. * Conserve 6,000 acres of prime agricultural lands and critical wildlife habitat in California's Central Valley, while also protecting habitat along the Trinity River, Atwell Island, the Sacramento River Bend Area, and Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. * Convey 1,500-acre Buck Island in the Mississippi River (near Helena, Arkansas) to public ownership, while continuing to conserve priority wetlands, island and side-channel complexes, and native forests along the Mississippi River.
