Marin Advocates for Children (MAC) is dedicated to preventing child abuse and advocating for the best interests of children. MAC supports two programs - Marin Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Marin Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC). The scope of our programs include advocacy for children in the court system, community education and training, therapeutic resources and referrals.
In 2011/2012 Marin 67 CASA volunteers advocated for 126 children in the dependency system, a 29% increase from the 90 children advocated for in 2008. The CAPC program trained over 300 mandated reporters on how to recognize child abuse and their legal duty to report it. CAPC also provided 19 child abuse prevention trainings to child welfare professionals and in 2011 began a partnership with the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services on the Family Strengthening Network - a long term effort to educate families and professionals alike on the protective factores that ensure against abusive behavior.
