Los Angeles (LA) area Impact was identified in the following areas: : Only nearly 57% of students graduate from high school. Of those attending BGCs, 82% report they plan to attend college after graduation, and 85% of their parents credited BGCs for an increase in academic performance. This results in an increase of a total member work-life earning by $185 million. : Fewer than 3 childbirths per 1,000 occur among BGC females, as opposed to an average of 34 per 1,000 in similar communities nationally. This saves taxes and the local community approximately $18,659,262 annually. : Those attending BGCs are less likely than their peers to participate in crimes. The State of California spends $191,017 for the arrest and detention of each youth offender. By reducing juvenile crime rates, BGC programs generate an annual savings of $82.9 million in crime prevention costs. : BGCs contribute to $429.2 million of additional earnings in the LA area, and 78% of parents surveyed indicated that the club enables them to keep their employment. : The study found that the economic output to the State of California is nearly $85 million and about 1,213 jobs are created by BGCs in the LA area. Other key findings from a 2007 Harris Interactive survey of Boys & Girls Clubs Alumni: 57% said that the club saved their life. 91% are satisfied with their life. 90% graduated from high school, compared with a 2007 national average of 68%. 92% believe that helping others is a priority. 81% feel their participation in the club helped develop a sense of responsibility to give back to their community.
