Seventh Generation Advisors puts into modern practice the ancient Native American philosophy that the decisions we make today should result in a sustainable world seven generations into the future. Ensuring that decisions being made about our energy, water, and natural resources are sustainable is central to this belief and to our mission. We carry out our mission by:

• Advocating environmental and clean energy policies by providing advice and guidance to visionary political leaders and emerging clean technology firms world-wide;
• Promoting ways to transition to a sustainable, low carbon economy by educating the public, the media and decision makers about the urgency of taking action;
• Guiding climate change policy initiatives for non-profit organizations such as the New America Foundation, The Climate Group, and the Center for Climate Strategies;
• Creatively communicating our mission and message through books, articles, op-eds, television interviews, theater, film, live speeches and blogs.

Our accomplishments include:

• 33 states have Climate Action Plans based on the California model that are comparable to actions taken by nations under UN protocols;
• Dozens of states, provinces, and regional governments around the world are committed to carbon cap-and-trade markets, including SGA’s leadership in creating the Western Climate Initiative linking the US, Canada, and Europe into a synchronized carbon market
• Tracking progress of low carbon policies to measure success using our unique climate policy maps, State Climate Policy Tracker™ , and climate policy news service.
• Convening US governors to lead the way on climate policy (at Yale in April 2008 and in Florida for Governor Crist in 2007 and 2008);
• Crafting Governors' Global Climate Summits in November 2008 and October 2009 in California, hosted by Governor Schwarzenegger, uniting leaders from around the world to forge climate policy agreements. The 2008 summit served as a venue for President-Elect Obama to make his first commitments for US carbon reductions.
• Negotiated agreements between US states and Chinese provinces which formed the basis for the U.S.-China Memorandum of Understanding to Enhance Cooperation on Climate Change, Energy and the Environment , signed by Secretary Hilary Clinton and Vice Chairman Xie Zhenhua in Washington DC in 2009. This historic bi-lateral agreement marks the first tangible commitment between the world's two largest emitting nations to make substantive progress on carbon reductions.·
• Assisted Netjets, Walmart, and numerous other companies to develop sustainability policies that include measuring and reducing carbon footprints.
