The YWCA Santa Monica / Westside has been serving the greater Westside community since 1926. Our Our Mission is to empower women and girls by creating opportunities for growth, progress and success. Our Programs – including early childhood development; K-12 life skills, literacy and athletics; transitional housing and education; young adult networking and career-building; parent support; and personal and professional renewal – instill confidence, capability and effectiveness in women and girls across the life cycle within a supportive, encouraging environment.
The YWCA advances the goals and pursuits of Westside women, girls and families at every turning point and life stage. Childbirth to Preschool: “A Place for Parents” offers parent support groups, Infant/Toddler & Me classes, Cottage Activity Time (a drop off play group that supports the parent/child separation process and the building of social skills), and a Family Cooperative Preschool, which opened in fall 2011. K through 12: “Girl Central” is an individualized program for elementary, middle and high school girls, providing them with the skills and tools to grow into strong, confident, and well-adjusted teenagers. Offering year round basketball and volleyball leagues and clinics, “Girls' Athletics” enable girls to realize a positive sports experience and gain an understanding of winning, losing, and how personal motivation, dedication and team work influence outcomes. Young Women: “Transitional Housing and Education” offers residence to emancipated foster youth for up to 2½ years during which time they are given meals and support services, and guided toward academic programs, vocational training, health care and other community services. Women: The “Women's Partnership” stimulates community among women with shared interests through the provision of retreats, workshops and classes that focus on the four pillars of personal and professional growth, volunteerism and philanthropy, civic engagement and advocacy, and health and well being. Lifelong Wellness that Fosters Health and Productivity: YWCA's “Health & Fitness” classes and “Stress & Mood-Busting” workshops impact all stages of the life cycle and support the development of good physical and social/emotional health.
