Sequoia and Kings Canyon are Parks of superlatives… · The highest mountains—including Mt. Whitney · The deepest canyons—such as John Muir’s beloved Kings Canyon · The biggest trees—found in groves of giant sequoias The Sequoia Parks Foundation, through private support from community partners, foundations, corporations, and thousands of individuals, is dedicated to the protection and preservation of these one-of-a-kind national treasures. The mission of the Sequoia Parks Foundation is to support programs and projects which enhance the restoration, conservation, and enjoyment of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in order that they might be fully enjoyed by their more than 1.5 million visitors annually. Incorporated in 1986, the Foundation serves as the primary, non-profit 501(c)(3) fundraising organization for the Parks.
Sequoia Parks Foundation works to ensure the future of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and has recently provided funding for the programs and projects listed below: Environmental Education & Outreach: · Rangers in the Classroom: connecting youth with their national parks · Giant Forest restoration video Trail Repair and Accessibility: · Tokopah Falls Trail Restoration · Universal Accessibility at Zumwalt Meadow · Jobs for Trails in Kings Canyon Research & Restoration: · native plant revegitation · climate change analysis and trainings · giant sequoia synthesis Search and Rescue: · specialized training and equipment for Park Rangers · education and prevention for Park visitors Sierra Arts Initiative: The Foundation supports artists, through in-Park retreats, to produce new work that captures the diversity and beauty found only in the Sierra Nevada. By also creating opportunities for participating artists to exhibit their art, the Foundation aims to increase awareness of and support for the Parks among new and diverse audiences statewide. This exceptional, signature program, launched with a lead gift from The James Irvine Foundation, is building a community of painters, printmakers, photographers, poets and authors. Sierra Arts Initiative programming has included: · Artists in the Back Country · Camp Wolverton artist retreats · Special exhibits at Wuksachi Lodge, Sequoia National Park · At Altitude: Four Views of the Southern Sierra, Wildling Art Museum
