Inspiring youth to make positive decisions for more successful lives.SOS Outreach programs are designed to increase resiliency and protective factors in at-risk and underprivileged youth. Research demonstrates youth with risk factors in their lives are more likely to engage in violence, drug & alcohol use, commit suicide, drop out of school, or become involved in pregnancy. SOS significantly reduces the likelihood participants engage in these harmful behaviors. Programs build self-confidence in participants, and enhances their ability to make better choices and enjoy a more productive life. SOS reaches out to participants through high quality programs that:  Positively impact self-esteem and ability to participate positively in their communities; Supports underserved youth through adult mentorship; Encourages personal character education through SOS's five core values of: Courage, Discipline, Integrity, Wisdom and Compassion. By using adventure recreation as a hook, SOS is able to build long-term relationships with participants, with consistent adult mentors, and ensure they continue to both set and attain their personal, academic and athletic goals.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit Valeria Rivero, who has been in the program for seven years and will be going to college this fall, had this to say about SOS, �Without a doubt, SOS Outreach has helped grow as a person. I remember being a timid 8-year-old who dreaded taking any risks. That changed though when I joined SOS and dared to have courage on the mountain. I started gaining confidence from the first time I got up on my snowboard to the time my board first started undulating in smooth turns down the mountain. Learning about courage resulted in me making new friends and improving my English through the students I met. Today, the core values that SOS Outreach promotes -- courage, discipline, integrity, wisdom, and compassion -- are engraved in me and have helped me along my journey. They have shaped me into who I am today�� SOS Outreach programs:  Instill the SOS core values of:  Courage, Discipline, Integrity, Wisdom and Compassion to all participants. Provide a multi-year, year-round outdoor curriculum to 5,000 youth annually across snow sports and wilderness experiences. Promote positive adult interactions for youth in need of role models. Positively affect the Protective Factors measured Positively impact self-esteem and their ability to participate in the community. Promote academic achievement.  Provide vocational and ad-vocational training to empower youth. Provide fitness and nutrition workshops to promote healthy lifestyle choices. Foster an appreciation of the outdoors.
