Veterans Green Jobs� mission is to engage, transition and connect military veterans with meaningful employment opportunities that serve our communities and environment.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit Veterans Green Jobs distinguishes and brands itself as a national leader in the employment of veterans, with a focus on employment in the green sectors of our economy. While we aim to support all veterans, it is the current generation of veterans whom are most in need. Inclusive in the post 9-11 generation are those particular demographics who have been wounded or injured, women-veterans and student-veterans. This focus requires us to be fully engaged as practitioners and partners in the veterans, energy and environmental communities. Through our current programs, Veterans Green Jobs is working with over 2,000 identified veterans to place 300 of them in full-time green sector jobs by 1 July 2013. Veterans Green Jobs has a clear and direct emphasis on employment. Successful reintegration from deployment and combat requires an individualized approach, including one-on-one counseling and assessment, to assist veterans in finding their way to meet their individual career, educational and well-being needs and goals. Those veterans, who have been wounded, injured or incurred illness as a result of their military service will require more adaptable and differently designed approaches. Current government and industry strategies towards veterans� employment have been only marginally successful. Traditional job fairs, electronic job banks, employment center services and other engagement methods have proliferated, yet the statistics for unemployment have not radically changed. The post 9/11 generation of veterans does not view traditional structures and organizations with trust and confidence. To a large extent, they have served apart from the rest of American society, having been deployed overseas numerous times, and returning to a distracted nation. They often value their former military peers over agencies, and use informal networks (social media, etc.) for information over more formal and traditional sources. They may not understand the dynamics and value of building relationships with employer and veterans organizations. Whether it be through education or training, many veterans are seeking opportunities that are more than just a good-paying job, but that will allow them to continue to serve, use their technological and technical skills, and make a difference in the future of the nation.
