The Art & History Museums engage the public by educating, collecting, preserving, interpreting, exhibiting, and promoting art and history reflective of the American experience inspired by Maitland's heritage and the legacy of André Smith's Research Studio. Through our multidisciplinary collections, a unique architectural environment, and inspirational programming, the Art & History Museums stimulates thought, sparks the imagination, enriches the spirit, and fosters appreciation in art, historical studies and research, and preservation.
Impact Summary from the Nonprofit The Art & History Museums-Maitland makes a significant on the landscape of Central Florida. Our programs teach valuable skills to children that widen their view of the world, spark their creativity, and hone their critical thinking and problem solving skills. The A&H preserves and interprets our collections and buildings of national significance to provide a deeper understanding about our world and to save these treasures for future generations. A&H educational opportunities support lifelong learning in adults, teaching them new skills and expanding their knowledge base. The A&H studios and archives, support local artists and historians in their respective fields. A&H volunteer opportunities provide a home for volunteers of all ages to learn, connect, and be valued for their expertise, generosity, and skills. The Art & History Museums-Maitland is a home to inspiration and learning. The Art &History Museums-Maitland (A&H) is an organization committed to meeting the needs of the community. With the guidance of an inclusive five year strategic plan, and a five year artistic plan, the A&H continues to be an institution of excellence that grows and excels at a rapid pace. Recent accomplishments include: renovation and preservation projects at all five locations, the first ever permanent exhibition on Maitland Art Center founder André Smith, introduction of a new logo and website, a revitalized museum store, installed WiFi throughout the A&H Packwood campus, and signed a long term lease with the city of Maitland. Additionally, the A&H has launched trademark monthly events that include Culture & Cocktails, Summer Concert Series, Artists' Critique & Conversation, Ladies Art Lounge, and Family Days at the Museum. These events are complimented by unique mission-focused fundraising events, Participation, and Evening in the Grove, two successful events that highlight efforts to diversify revenue sources. All of this was completed while A&H continued to host acclaimed exhibitions, re-energize the Artist-in-Action program, provide art instruction, hands-on history programming, lectures, and field trips, and improve internal operations and customer service. Looking towards the future, the A&H has committed to the American Alliance of Museums' Continuum of Excellence, and has taken its Pledge of Excellence as an institution committed to ethics, national standards and best practices in the museum field. The A&H also continues its master planning process, to renovate and create new facilities to better serve the mission of the institution. The A&H works diligently to maintain its beautiful, historic facilities; offer unique programming based on the legacies of its founders; create an atmosphere of discovery, engagement and inspiration; and by providing superior service.
