Building bridges to a brighter future by nurturing and educating at-risk youth.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit Currently, our Educational Tutoring Program's goal is to assist youth in achieving their academic potential despite the odds against them, due to their socio-economic status. To meet this goal, we provide after-school tutoring and educational support targeting children in 3rd- 12thgrade who reside at Great Oaks Village and also underprivileged children in the Central Florida Public Schools, who are selected by their school administration. The goal is to address the lack of cognitive stimulation caused by their living circumstances with personal programs customized for each child's needs and challenges in academia. To achieve this, BOL implemented the Educational Tutoring Program (ETP), which provides supplemental teaching that assists students with lower proficiency skills while simultaneously raising overall grade point averages, reading levels, and math scores. Michelle who attends the Educational Tutoring Program (ETP) four times per week for forty-five minutes a day, wrote Bridges of Light Foundation a letter on May 22, 2012. She writes "I enjoy tutoring because the assistance of the tutors really helps me. The tutors have great attitudes towards the kids and the tutor always has me leave with a smile upon my face. I haven't had a day where I leave frowning or upset." The low ratio of tutors to children has enabled the development of strong, trusting relationships causing the tutors to also serve as mentors to the children.
