Hebni Nutrition Consultants, Inc. is a community-based, not for profit agency formed in 1995 to educate high-risk, culturally diverse populations about nutrition strategies to prevent diet-related diseases. Hebni has developed intervention programs and educational tools which address populations, particularly African-Americans, who are at high risk for poor health outcomes.Hebni's mission is to provide culturally appropriate nutrition education and intervention strategies toprevent diet-related diseases. Hebni is committed to reducing healthdisparities among high risk minority populations by providing compressive nutrition related strategies to decrease, manage and delay chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, obesity, and hypertension.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit Hebni's programs, educational tools, and diabetes cookbookshave been featured in numerous media markets across the nation including CNN,Newsweek,USA Today, Today's Dietician, the Orlando Sentinel, and ""My Two Cents"" on BET television. In 1997, Hebni developed the first of its kind ""Soul Food Pyramid"" which is designed to show African-American populations where ethnic, or ""soul foods,"" fall in the traditional food pyramid. Hebni's new Soul Food Pyramid gained national attention in magazines such asNewsweek andToday's Dietician. Newspapers including the Orlando Sentinel, the Indiana Tribune, the Gainesville Sun, and others have featured stories about Hebni's Pyramid. More than 300,000 Soul Food Pyramids havebeen distributed to health organizations and businesses across the nation. Hebni has also authored five cookbooks that have been published by the American Diabetes Association. The Department of the Army awarded Hebni a Certification of Appreciation in 2009 for work donewith the soldiers of the Community Based Warrior Transition Unit forhelping them achieve healthy behaviors. In addition, the Orlando Sentinel featured an article on one of Hebni's participants who lost more than forty pounds and reduced her blood sugar levels through Hebni's program. Hebni's K.Y.D.S. Take Charge program has earned Hebnithe 2010 USTA Diversity Award, and the program was featured in January 2011 by the Orlando Magic as one of their 2011 ""Magic Makers."" In February, 2011, Hebni was awarded a $75,000 Sapphire Award of Distinction from the Blue Foundation of Florida for Hebni's accomplishments in 2010. Gospel Now magazine which reachesmore than 20,000Orange County residents, presented Hebni with the 2010 Influential Community Partner award for its work in promoting nutrition education to minorities inCentral Florida. Hebni recently received a 2011 Disney Helping Kids Shine Award for its K.Y.D.S. Take Charge program that reaches more than 150 minority youth each year.
