Impact Summary from the Nonprofit The 23rd annual Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival will open May 14th and run through May 27th, 2014. Held again in the heart of Orlando's cultural corridor, Loch Haven Park and Ivanhoe Village, the event will feature over 90 independent performing arts groups presenting over 600 shows. In 2012, Orlando Fringe expanded by adding the Mennello Museum of American Art to host Kids Fringe. In 2013, Theatre Downtown on Orange Avenue and The Venue onVirginia Drive hosted two new performance venues, expanding into nearby IvanhoeVillage. The Festival features artists from across the continent and the globe, as well as a large cross-section from Central Florida, South Florida, and Tampa. In 2013, over 31,00 tickets were sold and operations were implemented with the assistance of a dynamic force of over 300 volunteers. Proudly, the organization maintained strong grant and sponsorship revenues, despite the economic downturn. Fringe received grant funding from United Arts of Central Florida, Orange County Arts and Cultural Affairs, the City of Orlando and the State of Florida. In 2013, Universal Orlando Foundation and The Barry Miller Foundation for Arts and Education made contributions. Fringe has received numerous awards, including Best Marketing Plan and Operational Excellence and Best Community Engagement from United Arts. Fringe also continues to win "Best Festival" or "Best Event" in publications, reader's polls, and websites, including the Orlando Weekly's Best of Orlando for eleven consecutive years. In 2010, Orlando Fringe was named Best Community Festival by The Orlando Sentinel and won a 10Best Bets Award from 10Best.com. In 2011, Orlando Fringe once again was named "Best Festival" by Orlando Magazine, Orlando Weekly and Orlando Sentinel. In 2011 and 2012, Watermark Media voted Orlando Fringe the "Best Placeto Buy Art". Orlando Fringe was named "Best Festival" by the #1 Orlando website, TheDailyCity.com. In 2013, Yelp! and Orlando Magazine named Orlando Fringe "Best Festival". Moving forward, the staff and the board is working diligently to ensure fiscal stability while maintaining artistic freedom and compensation for artists and performers. The organization continues under the proven leadership of General Manger, George Wallace and Festival Producer, Michael Marinaccio. Under their direction, Fiscal Year 2013-14 will be another year of smart growth, pushing the boundaries of artistic risk and excellence, ingenuity in marketing and production - as well as the most fun you can have over fourteen days in May in Central Florida- the Orlando Fringe. Orlando Fringe is a proud member of the United States Association of Fringe Festivals (USAFF) and the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals (CAFF) and follows the CAFF mandate to remain 100% uncensored, un-juried, and accessible while giving 100% of box office sales directly back to the artists. In 2013, more than $250,000 was returned back to the performance groups.
