The Illinois African American Coalition for Prevention (ILAACP) is a statewide, membership-based charitable organization that strengthens prevention systems, policies, and programs in under-served communities through culturally-relevant research, training, advocacy.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit - Co-sponsored the 2006 National Hip Hop Political Convention in Chicago, IL. to strengthen the hip hop generation's civic and political participation. The event attracted 3,500 youth from 53 cities across 22 states.   - Spearheaded a campaign to restore funds to 37 community based agencies from across the Illinois that lost their Teen REACH programs. The effort led the Illinois Senate to pass SB 1537, which included a $1.9M supplemental appropriation that allowed the agencies to continue their programs for the remainder of the year.    - Partnered with Aetna Insurance and UIC�s Midwest Latino Health Research Training and Policy Center to host Unnatural Causes town hall meetings in Kane, Cook, and Peoria counties. These meetings brought together over 270 grass roots organizers, public health workers, and elected officials to examine the root causes of health disparities and identify policies or actions that promote healthy equity.   - Through our Youth-in-Prevention (YIP) program, a mini-grant initiative supported by the Department of Human Services, the ILAACP has awarded over $85,000 to 24 community-based organizations to implement youth-led prevention strategies to address obesity, STI�s, underage drinking, tobacco use, and substance abuse in communities as far north as Rockford and as far south as Carbondale, IL.
