To assure and promote the preservation of our historyand culture.

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit Headquarters of the Oswego Heritage Council is the Oswego Heritage House and Museum. The purchase and restoration of this city landmark has required a large capital investment and thousands of volunteer hours; the mortgage has been paid in full. Our beautiful Colonial building was built in the 1920�s and we are working to bring it and the grounds back to their original glory. When the restoration is complete we intend to place the property on the National Register of Historic Places. The Heritage House exhibits and stores safely in a vault many artifacts from Lake Oswego�s history. The Heritage House is open to visitors to view historic displays, do research and tour the grounds. In addition the Heritage House is available for educational outreach programs in conjunction with our local schools and provides an educational facility for field trips. The Oswego Heritage Council is working with schools to collect oral histories from our long-time residents, and we present a monthly series of adult seminars discussing the colorful history of our state. Our living history actors attend many functions throughout the metro area. Oswego Heritage House provides meeting and gathering spaces for events exposing attendees to Lake Oswego�s rich history. In May of each year we provide a glimpse of our past through a Historic Home Tour. August brings our two-day Collector Car and Classic Boat Show in Lake Oswego. The exhibitors come from all over the Pacific Northwest. Our nearly 5000 visitors are able to view over 300 collector cars in George Rogers Park, over 40 classic boats on Oswego Lake, wooden cruisers and PT 658 on the Willamette River at Foothills Park. WWII vets have flown in from all over the country to ride on PT 658. Our work on this Show has been important for our community and for the tourism industry of our fine town. Cultural and heritage experiences are important factors in attracting travelers to visit Lake Oswego. We support our regional artists in November with an annual art sale. We publish a quarterly Journal and annually install bronze plaques identifying historic sites and features in the city. We have published two books on Oswego�s history, Iron Wood & Water, a retrospective on the local iron industry, and Cooking up Oswego Memories, our historic cookbook. The Council has helped write walking tour maps, heritage tree maps, and helped push for the restoration of the Iron Furnace.
