The Wetlands Conservancy is the leading voice for Oregon's Greatest Wetlands -- promoting conservation, collaboration and stewardshiby working with local communities, land trusts, watershed councils, individual landowners and resource managers to promote local stewardship, restoration and purchasing of properties. We train, educate and provide assistance directly to landowners, citizen groups, and businesses to increase local conservation and restoration of key wetlands.
Impact Summary from the Nonprofit The Conservancy purchased a 82.6-acre conservation easement on critical Marbled Murrelet habitat within the Lower Beaver Creek Watershed of Oregon's Central Coast. This purchase adds to Oregon State Parks Beaver Creek Natural Area. The Conservancy completed the Yaquina Estuary Conservation Plan, which is now being implemented by private landowners, non-government organizations, and agencies. The plan supports TWC's Central Coast vision of a 10,000-acre connected system of estuary, wetland and upland habitats in the Yaquina, Beaver Creek and Alsea estuaries and lower watersheds. The Conservancy partnered with Defenders of Wildlife and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to host two workshops on climate change and wetlands. The workshops ensured that information related to wetlands and climate change is readily available for land managers making decisions on conservation, enhancement, restoration and mitigation needs. Several projects for 2012 include: The Wetlands Conservancy has been nationally accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission (LTAC), an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance that is comprised of diverse land conservation and nonprofit management experts from around the country. We are now one of 158 trusts from across the United States that meet rigorous national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands. Aqua Plate Special Expand the Aqua Plate Special Program which partners with local restaurants and markets to increase awareness around the vital connection between healthy wetlands and Oregonís iconic and beloved seafood. Without thriving estuaries and wetlands, there can be no thriving local seafood industry. Expanding Land Conservation Activities The Conservancy is working on a wetland conservation plan for the Closed Lakes Basin in Southeastern Oregon -- an area with over 500,000 acres of wetlands supporting a remarkable concentration of birds.
