Impact Summary from the Nonprofit The ALS Association Western Pennsylvania Chapter is thriving. Here are just a few highlights of our 2012 successes: Two new direct patient service programs were implemented – The Power Wheelchair Refurbishment Program which allows us to refurbish and customize power wheelchairs for new users. Modular Wheelchair Ramp Program which allows us to purchase and refurbish pieces of modular ramps to be customized to each person’s needs. The inauguration of a Caregiver Appreciation Weekend which provides a relaxing break from care giving to replenish the minds, bodies and spirits of those who are dedicated to caring for loved ones with ALS. Successful Fundraising for Patient Services! In June 2011, we honored Knopp Biosciences with the Anne Lewis Humanitarian Award which raised more than $100,000. Record-breaking success with our signature event The Walk to Defeat ALS® in Johnstown and Pittsburgh, which raised more than $455,000 (net) and had an all-time high attendance of almost 4,000 walkers! In the coming year care services is our number one priority. Raising money to continue to provide needed resources, equipment and respite care to those living with ALS is our main focus. We will be holding three (3) walks; one in Johnstown, one in Pittsburgh at the Zoo and we are joinging The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community in Erie. Through these walks we hope to exceed the financial goals set last year and raise well over $500,000. Another top priority for 2012/2013 is to increase public awareness about ALS and ALS research.
