Their Mission Statement

PPWP’s mission has the following three components: 1. to provide comprehensive reproductive and complementary health care to those in need of these services; 2. to disseminate information about human sexuality and the need for family planning and responsible parenthood; and 3. to advocate public policies that guarantee these rights and ensure access to such services.

Summary of Impact

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit Over the last year, PPWP has worked to implement the goals outlined in the agency’s strategic plan. The following is a list of some of our recent achievements:   ·         Opened a new family planning health care center in Greensburg. Located just past Westmoreland Mall, the new center is able to provide affordable reproductive health care services to men, women and teens. These services include gynecological care, STD testing and treatment, birth control methods and a variety of wellness services.     ·         PPWP initiated a local response to the growing rates of STDs affecting the adolescent population. Our GYT – Get Yourself Tested campaign included the development and distribution of over 10,000 bus pass holders targeted to teens and filled with prevention information and resources used to encourage STD testing.   ·         The HPV vaccine is now offered in all of our health care centers. PPWP is one of the only health care centers that offers this life saving vaccine on a sliding fee scale.  The vaccine protects women against the four most common strains of the HPV virus, which have been shown to cause cervical cancer. ·         The Peer Education program expanded services to include two additional schools. The City of Pittsburgh’s CAPA High School and Clayton Academy (an alternative school for at-risk youth) are now host schools for this highly effective program that successfully reduces teen pregnancy and increases graduation rates among participants.  ·         PPWP expanded its education services to reach individuals with disabilities. These efforts include providing technical training to professionals who work with individuals with disabilities and direct training to youth up to 21 years of age with developmental disabilities through a Pittsburgh School District program called City Connections. ·         PPWP expanded its counseling program to offer a broad range of mental health services including: mild depression, body image, grief, domestic abuse, and eating disorders.   All counseling services are provided on a sliding fee. ·         PPWP implemented a comprehensive medical management system to increase productivity and provide management improvement data. In addition, PPWP added Saturday health center hours and additional walk-in hours to meet the growing demand for affordable health care services. ·         PPWP provided reproductive health care information to men and women in the correctional system through prevention education programming in group homes.
