The Western Pennsylvania Hospital Foundation (WPHF) raises, invests and distributes funds in support of The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and the West Penn Allegheny Health System, the Hospitalsí medical programs, patient and family care, research, education and community programs, and provides research administration.   WPHF contributes to the health of our community by mobilizing people and resources to enable the hospital to provide the most technologically advanced care with competence and compassion.   WPHF acts as a conduit between West Penn Hospital and its grateful community by accepting unrestricted and program-specific donations from patients, families, employees, physicians and the community-at-large for a variety of programs. WPHF coordinates special fundraising events and programs including annual appeals, a Corporate Golf Classic  and Aluminum Cans for Burned Children recycling program.

Summary of Impact

Impact Summary from the Nonprofit Accomplishments 1.  The 2012 employee campaign raised over $70,000 for projects including car seats/sleep saks for infants, the Angel Heart bereavement program for parents who have lost a child, Healing Journey conference for cancer survivors, the Lupus Center of Excellence, Joslin Center for Diabetes, a pediaric playroom and West Penn Burn Center. 2.  Raised funds for the safe baby fund to provide safe sleep education and portable cribs, car seats and sleep saks to any baby born at West Penn Hospital who needs one. Raised additional funds to purchase equiment for the Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit. 3.  Raised funds to purchase equipment to expand the capacity of the Simulation, Teaching and Academic Research (STAR) Center to provide training to more employees, students, physicians and the community. STAR added a Simulated ambulance for training emergency medical services providers  in their community.     4. Raised funds to support Summer Camp for children ages 7-17 who were patients of West Penn Burn Center; brought an International fellow from South America to West Penn Burn Center to learn advanced burn techniques.   5. Provided $1 million for new birthing beds, fetal monitors and infant warmers for the NICU and Crib Notes, a medical records sytem for the NICU.   6. Raised over $100,000 thru the Golf Classic to benefit the patients of West Penn Allegheny Health System   Goals   Raise funds to: 1.  Increase the capacity of Simulation, Teaching and Academic Research Center to provide education and training for community (high school students who want a career in health care; emergency medical service providers; nursing and medical students) through the addition of staff and equipment. 2.  Raise funds to purchase needed medical equipment for expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. 3. Raise funds to support West Penn Hospital's new cardiovascular services.   4. Raise funds for the Lupus Center of Excellence for education, research and patient care needs.
