On July 30th, just 4 weeks after her 2nd birthday, our daughter Effy was diagnosed with leukemia. We went to the doctor for an unrelated bump on her side and after some blood tests, we were told that she has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
Effy is a fighter and hasn't lost her sweet and friendly nature. When we were admitted to the hospital that day, she went through a battery of tests and had an IV put in, and endured a lot of scary procedures. Through it all, she was so brave and gave us the thumbs up, which has become our mantra and reminder that she will beat this! We have been collecting photos of people giving Effy the thumbs up to encourage her along this difficult journey. The support and love from the photos reminds us that we aren't alone and that Effy has a whole community of people behind her. Asking for help isn't easy for us, but people have been so wonderful, we can't tell you how much it all means.

This is the beginning of a long journey to beat leukemia. Effy has treatments over the next nine months at Stanford, which is 90 minutes from our house. We are facing copays, medical bills, travel expenses, and medications. Mom took a leave of absence from her full-time job to stay home with Effy and little brother Harry, as neither can attend daycare because of risk of infections. Through chemo, Effy's immune system is basically gone, so we all need to be careful about keeping Effy healthy.
After the 9 months, we are hoping that Effy continues to improve and we are looking at an additional 2 years of treatment, check-ups, and monitoring.

We are trying to raise money for medical bills and costs related to Effy's treatment and both short-term and long-term care.
